PICO Portal Saves Screening Time
Researchers at Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health tackled this head-on in their recent study presented at the 2024 Global Evidence Summit – showing the reliability of PICO Portal’s priority screening.
In a series of eight chronic kidney disease treatment reviews, they used PICO Portal to assist with citation screening. PICO Portal’s priority screening algorithm re-ranked the teams’ citations so they could discover the evidence faster – enabling them to stop screening early – after only about 50% of the way through – while maintaining 95% recall. Once they completed full-text, analyzed how well the priority screening performed.
What did they find? Given additional excluded citations during full-text review, PICO Portal was even more accurate than expected and able to save as much as 344 hours – capturing eligible articles in more than half of the time of traditional methods.
